This pattern of more male than female same-sex couples has been consistent sincewhen data first became available, although the degree of difference has decreased in each Census.

This trend was also evident for higher degrees. Same-sex couples were more likely to live in large cities or towns than in rural and regional areas of Australia. This pattern was true for both male and female same-sex couples, but was particularly apparent for male couples.
